Reading Instructional Aide




The Reading Instructional Aide is responsible for implementing the after-school or summer reading programs for elementary school-age children who are not reading at their grade level. The Reading Instructional Aide reports to the Reading Instructor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement literacy activities under the direction of the Instructor and Program Director
Implement and support positive classroom management strategies developed by the Instructor
Daily set up, distribution and clean up of snack and program activities
Attend all required meetings and trainings
Maintain accurate records and confidentiality of children, families, and fellow staff members
Perform administrative and other related tasks and duties as needed
Willingness to perform other appropriate duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Experience working with elementary school-age children
Familiarity with literacy instruction, particularly phonics
Experience and/or training in effective and positive classroom management strategies
Ability to engage and motivate students, as well as teach to a wide range of learning styles and
abilities
Excellent communication skills, both in speaking and writing, with a high level of English
proficiency
Experience working with diverse youth
Must be a team player
Fingerprint and TB clearance required prior to hire

Educational Experience:
Bilingual Spanish/English highly desired; bilingual Cantonese/English a bonus§ Experience providing reading instruction to elementary school-age children and
English Language Learners
Knowledge of best practices in reading instruction and of the California Education
Content Standards
Completion of Child Development or Child Psychology college-level courses
Knowledge of Youth Development Principles

Schedule:
Fixed term; non exempt. Hours are after school and throughout the school year only,
as outlined in the letter of hire

Salary Range:
$14.00 - 15.00/hour
