The Instructor is responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising after-school literacy and enrichment programs for elementary school-age children. The Instructor reports to the Program Director and the Site Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate, supervise, and teach literacy, enrichment, and recreational activities for 15-20 students
Develop and implement daily lesson plans under supervision of Site Coordinator
Flexibility in accommodating lessons to a variety of learning styles and abilities
Develop and maintain positive relationships with teachers, principal, and school community
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavior
Schedule quarterly parent teacher conference with 15-20 participating families
Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and fellow staff members
Create student progress and monthly program reports, keep accurate attendance logs
Supervise daily set up, distribution, and clean up of snack and program activities
Participate in coordination of field trips with up to 20 students using public transportation
Create a safe and respectful learning environment using positive behavior management techniques
Attend all required meetings and trainings including 1 Flynn general staff planning meeting per month
Fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center’s educational philosophy
Perform administrative and other related tasks and duties as neededQualifications:
Experience teaching elementary school-age children
Familiarity with literacy instruction to English Language Learners preferred but not required
Experience and/or training in effective and positive classroom management
Ability to engage and motivate students using a variety of learning modalities
Excellent communication skills with a high level of English proficiency
Experience working with diverse youth, knowledge of Youth Development Principles
Knowledge of best practices in reading instruction and of the California Education Content Standards
Bilingual Spanish/English highly desired
Must be a team player
Fingerprint and TB clearance required prior to hire
Education:
Bachelors degree in English, Education, or Child Psychology highly desired
CBEST and/or any Literacy specific certificationsSchedule:
Flynn Site starts 8/18/08; 4.5 hr / day, Monday – Friday (2-6:30pm)
Hours are after school and throughout the school year only, as outlined in the letter of hire.
Instructors receive an additional 1.5 hrs per week for planningSalary Range: $15.00- 17/hour depending on qualifications (Fixed term non-exempt)
